About the Position:
This is a Maintenance Worker Helper, WG-4749-05 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District, Operations Division. This position is temporary not to exceed 120 days and extensions may be made without further competition.

As a Maintenance Worker Helper, you will maintain and repair park facilities such as campsites, picnic areas, public restrooms, and park roads. You will perform routine tasks such as the following:
Changing light switches
Checking for blown fuses or defective breakers
Completing simple repairs to hydraulic gates, hoists and stand-by generators (e.g., bolting down parts of machinery, checking fuel lines and lubricating systems)
Replacing faucets, hose connections and lawn irrigation devices
Repairing items such as cabinets, shelves, bookcases, etc.
Patching sidewalks
Collecting water samples and conduct routine tests (e.g., chloride and pH levels)
Checking water storage levels and pressures
Operating mowing equipment
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: To qualify, you must have the ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker Helper, WG-4749-05 without more than normal supervision. This includes performing routine maintenance to equipment involving carpentry, masonry, cement finishing, electrical, mechanical, painting, or plumbing work.Applicants who do not meet this qualification will be screened out and will not receive further consideration.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Uses moderate physical effort to stack, load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials ranging in weight from 10 lbs to 50 lbs unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.

Direct Deposit of Pay is Required.
Appointments will be made not-to-exceed 120 days from entrance on duty (EOD).
If a request to extend an appointment is made and the cumulative time spent on the appointment exceeds 120 days, you will be required to complete a Personnel Security Investigation.
